The Bedford Consulting Group is pleased to present our fourth annual Compensation Report for Mining Boards and Executives.
This comprehensive report has been designed as a resource for Canadian mining companies to benchmark remuneration practices. The intention is to provide firms with the information necessary to support compensation decisions for Directors and Executives. This year’s study includes compensation data for Directors, Board Chairs, Lead Directors, Audit and HR/Compensation Committees, HSE Committees, Community Committees, CEOs, CFOs, COOs, VP Exploration, and VP Operations.
A significant finding of this year’s report is that several junior mining companies have disappeared due to the dire state of our industry, and have therefore been omitted. For those companies that have survived this volatile climate, we have seen asset values holding, market values shrinking, and little impact on Executive and Board compensation.
We have made numerous improvements to this year’s survey to offset changes in sample size:
- 165 mining companies were surveyed, with enhanced distinctions based on stage of evolution and commodity focus;
- Inclusion of remuneration practices for the Vice President, Corporate Development;
- Addition of compensation approaches for Environment, Health, Safety, and Community Committees;
- In-depth discussions of findings for each section;
- Inclusion of terminology for compensation concepts touched upon.
