The Bedford Consulting Group together with Global Governance Advisors (GGA) is pleased to present our annual Mining Industry Report on Executive and Board Remuneration.
This year we have expanded our regular survey of Canadian firms to compile a comprehensive examination of the international practices of over 233 companies around the globe. This comprehensive compensation report is a must-read for Board Chairs, Audit and HR committees, CEOs, CFOs, and HR executives.
Having a bigger scope and broader perspective, this year’s mining survey allowed us to look more granularly at emerging pay practices internationally. Not surprisingly, we uncovered in this report that there is a clear divide of pay practices and emerging trends that exist amongst the named executive officers and directors of these organizations, depending on the value of corporate assets.
In addition to a bigger scope and broader perspective, please take a look at other improvements we have made to this year’s survey:
- 233 mining companies are included this year, up from 150 last year, including much better representation of large, global companies listed on exchanges outside of Canada.
- Simplified presentation of key information with statistical detail shifted to Appendices
- Segregated reporting of Board annual retainers between companies that pay meeting fees and those that do not.
- Inclusion of remuneration practices for Lead Directors.
- Distinction between the compensation received by Chief Operating Officers and VP, Operations roles.
- New tools in the Appendices to facilitate a preliminary, high level comparison of executive compensation to relevant market practice.
- Share-ownership requirements, both for executives and directors, are analyzed and reported.
- An increase in the number of executive positions available in the database from 575 to 1,028.
